One of the events in Singaporean history that people should remember the most is the Laju incident, which occurred 42 years ago. Mr. S. R. Nathan was one of the government officials who went to Kuwait as a hostage-taker in order to gain the release of civilian hostages held by the Japanese Red Army and the Popular Front for the Liberation, two terrorist organizations. The incident revealed the previous president’s courage. 2. Mr. S. R. Nathan was the ambassador to the US during the 1994 Michael Fay incident. Our previous president responded to international criticism with firmness and diplomacy, despite pressure from the United States and then-President Bill Clinton. 3. The previous president established the President’s Challenge in 2000. This annual endeavor, now in its 17th year, has generated more than $100 million for more than 500 recipients. 4. Mr. S. R. Nathan became the first president to sanction the use of the nation’s reserve to support new initiatives that expeditiously pulled Singapore out of recession in 2009, at the height of the global financial crisis. 5. The only president to get the Order of Masek (1st class) is him. Mr. Yong Pung How (chief judge, supreme court) and Mr. Suppiah Dhanabalan (former chairman, temasek holdings) are the other 2 honorees. We at http://www.propertyconnectx.com would want to honor our previous president on behalf of all of us. A simple thank you may not be able to express how much you have done. Every Singaporean will carry on your legacy in their hearts.
