The concept of integrity is not taught in schools, according to Alvaro Vaselli. Integrity is a decision that belongs to each individual, and over time, it shapes who we are. When I was writing my most recent post, which was titled “Are you doing what it takes to develop a high performance team?,” I included seven essential suggestions that any leader need to take into consideration when constructing a high performance team. An evident topic that was investigated was the idea that “doing the right thing” is the essence of ethics and integrity. This was one of the themes that was investigated. It discussed the appropriate and inappropriate ways for people to behave. Specifically, it investigated the subject of what leaders ought to do when confronted with a predicament or alternatives that are not very desirable. Along the same lines, I said in that post that we leaders are always making choices. Because it is our work, we are assessed based on the decisions that we make. This evaluation is carried out by our superiors, our colleagues, our subordinates, as well as our loved ones and our families. It is a decision that we make, and throughout the course of our lives, it determines who we really are. When it comes to trust, honesty is the most important factor. In light of the current political climate and the process of choosing the next president of the United States of America, I have been obligated to elaborate on the concept of integrity. I assure you that this is not a political post since I am not competent to debate the quality of these possible candidates in any kind of detail inside this piece. In spite of this, I would want to talk about the importance of integrity in the context of leadership. When it comes to leadership, honesty is possibly the most crucial attribute that a person can possess, regardless of whether they are in charge of a small neighborhood organization, a corporation, or an entire nation. There is just one trait that gives us the ability to empower, strengthen, free, and equalize ourselves. The attribute of integrity is characterized by honesty, the possession of strong moral values, and the maintenance of a consistent character. The fact that it is the common denominator of trust, which is an essential component in every personal or professional relationship, cannot be denied. Where does one get their sense of integrity? Is there a curriculum in schools that teaches integrity? Have we been taught it at home? Is it anything that our parents talk to us about? Is it shown on the television? Certainly not on the most recent debates between candidates for the presidency. Do we learn and see integrity in the culture that we live in? Does it come from within? Is it molded by the experiences we’ve had throughout our lives? In order to grow and improve, do we need to experience failure, learn from it, and make adjustments? Possibly all of the aforementioned possibilities. To be honest, I don’t really claim to know. One thing that I am certain of is that consistent demonstrations of integrity become ingrained in our character over the course of time. It functions similarly to a muscle that has to be worked out and developed, and as a result, it will demonstrate how strong you are and disclose who you really are. Winners Warren Buffett, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Berkshire Hathaway, said it best when he stated, “When searching for individuals to recruit, look for three qualities: integrity, intellect, and enthusiasm.” Additionally, if they do not possess the first one, the other two will be able to kill you. definitely a statement that packs a punch. There was a firm that I used to work with named Huntsman. They were a chemical supplier that supplied advanced materials, performance products, and additives to a wide range of market areas. Mr. Jon Huntsman, Sr., the company’s founder, began the firm from the ground up and once said in his book “Winners Never Cheat” that “there are no moral shortcuts in the game of business or life.” People may be broken down into three categories: those who are unsuccessful, those who are successful for a short period of time, and those who achieve and maintain success throughout time. The distinction lies in one’s character. As far as Mr. Huntsman is concerned, the reason he has achieved the level of success that he has is due to his honesty. winners for a limited time There are several instances of winners, who are just transitory. Enron, for instance, was regarded as one of the most successful and innovative businesses in the United States on several occasions. A number of the most influential persons in the nation, including the President of the United States, were familiar with the Chief Executive Officer of the corporation. Unfortunately, Enron’s success was founded on falsehoods, and the “temporary winners” who headed the business are now case studies in the lack of integrity that existed throughout the corporation. Integrity begins at home, which brings me back to the questions I asked at the beginning: where does integrity originate? Does it come from within? Are changes made to it over time? Is it anything that is taught in schools? In the city of São Paulo, Brazil, my father, who is 75 years old, continues to actively engage in his daily job at his own accounting business. In my memory, I do not recall ever having a lecture from him on the topic of integrity, nor do I recall ever having a specific lesson on the subject of integrity. What I do remember about him are innumerable instances of his acting morally while no one was looking, day after day, year after year. I recall him doing this over and over again. as well as without a doubt not boasting about it. In the last several years, my oldest son, who was maybe 16 or 17 years old at the time, worked with a life coach for a few sessions in order to get assistance with some choices that he needed to make. During one of the feedback sessions that I had with him, the coach noted the substantial moral beliefs that my kid had as well as his exceptional sense of justice, especially considering his age. In spite of the fact that I was pleased to learn that, it prompted me to pause and consider the actions that I had taken in order to instill or shape such a characteristic in my kid. It was impossible for me to think of a precise response. Upon more consideration, I have come to the conclusion that this imprint in character is formed over the course of time, and it begins at home, in all that we do, regardless of whether or not anybody is looking. Integrity will get us to a better place, but circumstances will have an effect on us, and events may entice us to depart from what we know to be right. Keeping this reality in mind at all times and acting in a manner that is consistent with it is the most effective approach to inspire others who are in our immediate vicinity to behave in the same manner. As we make progress in this continuum on an individual level, we will be moving in the right direction as a society, and we will be increasing our chances of witnessing a demonstration of integrity by our presidential candidates on television or when they are actually leading the country for the rest of the world to see.
