Because Donald Trump has expressed so many viewpoints that are in direct opposition to one another about this hegemonic problem, it is hard to predict what he will do as president. Many people saw his actions as an effort to win over a wider section of pro-choice voters while also keeping the backing of the anti-abortion establishment and the religious right. In a similar vein, when Trump said that planned parenthood “does very important things,” but that the organization should still be defunded if it continues to offer abortion services, he expressed ambiguity in his statements. In point of fact, by taking this stance, he is ignoring the reality that planned parenthood does not and cannot make use of the cash it gets from the government in order to finance abortions.
