Through the efforts of the team and photography: In order to commemorate the first success of the design clinic plan that aims to empower micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), a book titled “entrepreneurial empowerment via design” has been released. The book contains 21 success stories of completed design projects in India. Prior to the beginning of our week-long exploration of the topic of “design changing society,” our guest editor, Professor Anil Gupta, strongly encouraged designers to collaborate with grassroots innovators in order to bring about a discernible shift in the social landscape. During the process of wrapping up our design impact special edition, we are pleased to announce the initial round of success in the design clinic scheme (dcs) for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). This scheme was launched in February of 2010 under the auspices of the Ministry of MSMEs, Government of India, and was carried out by the National Institute of Design. It is a one-of-a-kind and ambitious design intervention implementation scheme for the micro, small, and medium-scale industries worldwide. Through this program, industry clusters are given the opportunity to get exposure to design thinking and methods, which may be used for design awareness, improvement, evaluation, analysis, and design-related intervention and application. In order to achieve the goal of providing expert advice and solutions on real-time design problems, the design clinic scheme intends to bring the micro, small, and medium-sized enterprise (MSME) sector and design expertise onto a common platform. This will ultimately result in continuous improvement and value addition for existing products and services. The vast micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the country can benefit from the assistance of design consulting firms, independent design practitioners, and various design institutes of the country, as well as design students. These entities can help the MSMEs move up the value chain by adding value to their products and services and providing a competitive edge. Through a number of case studies on projects that have been made possible by design intervention, the book provides a documentation of knowledge that may be experienced firsthand. The compilation provides a helpful overview of the design process and its implementation among a selection of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (msmes) that participated in the activities of the plan. The purpose of the information contained there is to assist professional designers and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (msmes) in better comprehending the design requirements of a large number of msmes, who may come forward and seek design intervention in order to enhance their products and services. Notable accomplishments include the completion of 311 design awareness seminars, 27 orientation programs, and 166 design awareness programs around the nation as a result of the initiative, and a significant number of other programs are now in the process of being developed. 779 design consultants, 321 design firms, 51 design institutes, 383 design students, 247 msme associations, 1571 msme units, and 23 government organizations have registered under the scheme. The initiative has received 312 professional design projects and 158 student design projects from a variety of msme units. Additionally, the scheme has registered 23 government organizations. A huge number of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (associations and units) as well as the Indian design community are presented with a tremendous opportunity by the concept.
