There are two major steps you must do in order to have a spiritual awakening or enlightenment. Realizing on a spiritual level that you are pure awareness and then fully immersing yourself in that experience is the first step towards enlightenment. While knowing intellectually that you are awareness is a valuable thing, it won’t bring you enlightenment on its own. You must first acknowledge that you are awareness itself by self-inquiry or witnessing consciousness. When you engage in self-inquiry, you find yourself returning to yourself. To assist you return your focus to the present moment before thinking, you may pose questions like “who am I?” or “what is consciousness?” and then experience that. With practice, you will be able to feel yourself as pure awareness more and more. At initially, you may only be able to experience yourself as awareness for a half-second before being entangled in ideas once again. When you witness, you let ideas come to you but choose to observe them rather than engage with them. You start by letting your ideas come and go. You intentionally let go of the ideas as they arise. You don’t passively cling to them, nor do you oppose them. Eventually you will reach a condition where, as you relax in your inherent level of pure awareness, you will see ideas coming and going on their own. You know that thought is occurring, but you don’t participate in it. The first level of enlightenment is reached by practicing both of these techniques; at that point, you will understand without a doubt that you are consciousness itself and that you exist entirely outside of the body and mind as awareness itself. Staying in this awareness is the second phase. because thinking will repeatedly lead you to escape this awareness. In other words, meditation is the discipline of staying extended periods of time in this state of pure awareness until that sense of being pure consciousness becomes your primary experience. Although they are incomplete, the aforementioned techniques are ideal for achieving enlightenment or a spiritual awakening. It is necessary to have this second component. and Shaktipat is the second component. Shaktipat is energy from the soul. You might refer to it as deeksha or grace. It is the awareness-pure energy. It is energy in the form of awareness. and it has all the wisdom necessary to change you and bring you to awareness.
