The Truth About Social Media Experts as Role Models They Would Prefer That You Didn’t Know I have no doubt that each one of us has been guilty of doing it. We made the comparison between ourselves and the allegedly successful folks who brag about their accomplishments on social media. But…it certainly has the potential to be a hazardous slope…?You begin to wonder things about yourself.I can’t help but wonder if what you’re doing is the proper choice.You are having second thoughts about your business and marketing strategies, and you are thinking that the business and marketing methods on the other side of the fence might be more successful. The snowball continues to rise and begins to have an effect on how you present yourself in your business.You’d rather be taking care of duties around the house than tackling the tasks on your list?You find that you no longer have any interest in establishing a business at all. You start to consider yourself a loser as a result of this. Not deserving of having success. There has had to be something wrong with you. Why make the effort at all? It’s all because you used social media to compare yourself to those who were portrayed as success poster children in fairy tales. The fact of the matter is that every single business owner goes through difficult times. They are all facing hardships of one kind or another. They are simply preventing you from seeing the more negative aspects of operating a company. They want you to concentrate solely on their achievements, as this will ensure that you form a favorable opinion of them at all times. I wouldn’t dream of airing my dirty laundry, for crying out loud! It’s not that I want to keep any secrets from you or that I’m not willing to be completely honest; it’s just that this particular topic isn’t particularly newsworthy. Due to its prevalence, it does not warrant coverage in the media. Developing a successful company is not without its share of challenges. Everyone in this industry has to deal with difficult customers who refuse to pay their bills for services given or products received. People consistently not showing up for their scheduled appointments and then disappearing later is a problem that affects all of us. We all have trouble hiring new members for our teams, and it can be challenging to locate people who have the right combination of experience, enthusiasm, and compatibility with our core beliefs. And yeah, I do question myself regularly especially in the hiring department: Are the questions I’m asking the right ones? If I hire this person, would I have enough information to make an informed decision about what the future holds? Do I pay them enough to maintain their interest in remaining here? Am I speaking with them in such a way that motivates them to want to perform each and every assignment to the best of their abilities? The examples are endless. However, I do not discuss these questions on any social media platforms. It’s just not something I want to bring up because then I’ll have to listen to the hundreds of different perspectives of individuals who have no idea about our business model or the circumstance we’re in. Having said that, I have sought the advice of HR professionals because this is their area of specialization! My purpose in bringing all of this up is to urge you not to judge yourself based on how you compare to other people on social media. Simply reading their posts will never provide you enough information to give you a complete picture of what they are going through. Even those who claim they are operating in an entirely open and honest manner? Believe me when I say that they are not disclosing everything. At the end of the day, the goal of every business owner is to run a profitable company that can continue to be in operation for the foreseeable future. They aren’t going to air their dirty laundry for the world to see and criticize them for it. In point of fact, there are certain so-called gurus in the world who are purposefully deceptive in the information that they divulge on social media. This is something I am aware of due to the fact that some of them have hired us to collaborate with them. And it was a miserable experience. They give off the impression that they are wealthy, that they are living the high life, that they have a great firm that enables them to travel frequently, and that they are enjoying the ideal of what an entrepreneur should strive to be. However, that is not what is actually taking place here. The gurus I’ve worked with in the past always want to pay me less than the prevailing rate for my services, claiming that it should be considered a privilege to collaborate with them and that the publicity alone will result in an increase in my clientele. Not. They are notoriously late in making payments on their bills. Some people go months without paying. Some people ultimately declare bankruptcy and don’t pay anything toward their debts. They frequently follow a launch business strategy in which they experience either a bountiful or a lean period of operations. They risk a significant financial investment in the introduction of a new product or program, banking on the likelihood that it will generate sufficient revenue to enable them to settle the mountain of debt that has accumulated. If it was successful, they will gladly pay, and they will be pleased with themselves for their kind contribution. If the launch does not produce the expected outcomes for the company, then the company will not pay its costs and will point the finger of blame at everyone and everyone else besides themselves. And the whole time they are doing this, they are bragging on social media about their most recent achievement and giving sage advise on how to run a great business. Now, obviously, not everyone is as malicious as the examples I just gave. There are some other people who look like they have thriving businesses and it’s highly likely that they do! But comparing yourself to them is a waste of time because they are not disclosing all of the hard work it took them to reach to this position of success. This makes it pointless to try to measure up to their achievements. They are unable of carrying out such a task because merely reporting in would constitute a full-time job. They put in countless hours of labor and struggled for a significant amount of time before they could consider their company to be successful. They didn’t wake up the next morning with it, and neither should you believe that it will happen that quickly for you. They are backed by a group of people in their organization. They are not able to develop a profitable business on their own, regardless of whether it is with the assistance of a reliable advisor, staff, or other resources in particular areas of competence. I assure you of that. Before you begin to evaluate your company in relation to that of another person, you should first acknowledge the fact that you do not have access to all of the relevant information. You have no idea the struggles they’ve been through, the lawsuits they might be facing, the risk of bankruptcy that’s been biting at their heels, or anything else they’re choosing not to disclose on social media. You have no idea the hardships and tribulations they’ve gone through. But there is something you can do: compete against your own past selves. This is how I have always conducted my business. Every day, I question myself, “How can I be more productive?” What can I do to bring in a greater number of our ideal customers? How can I best serve my team such that they feel their contributions are valued? What do I need to get done today to make sure that I am able to pay all of my bills?(Remember that I’m the overachiever who earned the badge; it’s in my genes to be competitive, and the person I compete against best is myself.) Make a strategy. To build something on a foundation of quicksand is analogous to running a business without first conducting thorough research and making detailed plans. Be certain that your business vision can be realized by formulating a business and marketing plan that explains how your vision can be turned into a lucrative reality and having this plan in place. Use your money carefully. When it comes to setting up the systems for your company, there are so many options available nowadays that it can be intimidating. There are thousands of different web hosts, hundreds of different social media management systems, dozens of different newsletter service providers, and the list goes on and on. Before you immediately leap into what seems to be a deal on myBlogd, you should first consult with someone who is familiar with that space in order to obtain informed insights that are tailored to your specific requirements. Do not attempt to do it on your own. If you do that, you are going to set yourself up for failure and frustration. If you keep pushing yourself to accomplish things that are outside of your area of competence, it is going to take you significantly longer and cost you significantly more money to achieve the business goals that you have set for yourself. And if you’re thinking that you’ll spend some money right now to learn what you need to know, then that’s an excellent illustration of exactly what I’m talking about. (Just so you know, these so-called gurus are frequently the ones offering the courses on how to establish and run a prosperous enterprise, as I mentioned earlier.) To successfully run a company requires a significant investment of time and effort. And the last thing you need is to become disillusioned by all the uplifting tweets and grandiose visuals that you see on social media; it’s the last thing you need. You can, of course, draw motivation from that if achieving that is what you want to do, but you should also be aware that there is always more hiding behind the curtain that will never be disclosed.
