Vinyl is one of the most underappreciated fence materials available. When considering constructing materials for residential fences, vinyl is not often thought of, but it should be. Although wood is still a common material for backyard privacy fences, there are now many benefits to vinyl alternatives. If you google the image of a vinyl fence in case you are unable to see it, you could be shocked to see pictures that, if you were unaware of the difference, you would have mistaken for wood. In fact, since vinyl comes in such a sophisticated palette of wood-like browns and tans, you’ve undoubtedly seen vinyl fences in real life without realizing they weren’t made of wood planks. Additionally, vinyl fence comes in a variety of white, gray, tan, and brown hues. Why go for vinyl instead of wood? Vinyl is replacing wood flooring more often because it requires less upkeep and is very durable. Insects as well as weather conditions including sunshine, humidity, and severe temperatures may harm wood. Wooden fences soon deform and start to deteriorate if they are not properly stained and preserved. A well-maintained wood fence should not need replacement for more than ten to fifteen years, even with diligent upkeep. Conversely, vinyl is more resistant to weather and has a 25-year lifespan. While vinyl is susceptible to warping or cracking in very hot or cold conditions, as most Americans do, its durability will still be superior to that of wood if you live in a moderate region. Additionally, vinyl is quite simple to clean. Generally speaking, a standard lawn hose will serve for basic cleaning; but, if you don’t clean it often, you may need to use a sprayer or power washer. In places where vinyl fences are often exposed to water—such as via a sprinkler system—mildew may grow. However, the non-porous, smooth surface is so simple to clean that mildew may be removed just as readily as dirt with a powerful spray of water. Vinyl fencing’s drawbacks There are undoubtedly good reasons to go with wood rather than vinyl. Vinyl usually has a greater initial cost than wood planks. Moreover, a vinyl fence cannot be painted differently from a wood fence since the vinyl’s surface does not retain paint. If the color of your vinyl fence is white, it won’t change until you remove it. I’m sure that some individuals like treating, staining,and/or painting their wooden fences themselves on a regular basis. If you love routinely altering the appearance of your home, you could become tired of a vinyl fence before it has to be replaced! All things considered, we think vinyl fencing is a fantastic substitute for wood plank fences, which are often underappreciated by those outside the fencing industry. Maybe vinyl works too well—if it looks like wood at first sight, people will believe it’s wood and won’t know vinyl is a possibility for construction! Regardless, vinyl outlasts wood and needs very little upkeep. For your next fence job, think about using vinyl if those features appeal to you. ********** The North Dallas-based Titan Fence & Supply Company was founded and is led by Jeff Sherman.
