Collection of photographs compiled by Ruthi Ashar, with permission from Design Forum International read time: three minutes a platform for worldwide design projects the sand dune typology to the gulf adiba business complex in gurgaon that promises to shine like a jewel in the otherwise nondescript industrial township… applying the sand dune form in their floor plate, dfi create an iconic built form with stepped terraces (like ripples of the sand dune), optimum greenery and natural light (flooding the interiors), resulting in an optimally planned, stress free, open-office style working environment. A six-story high, fluid, rhythmic, continuous mass, with an east-facing open-to-sky entrance court and a distinctive, veil-like roof structure, the four thousand square meter plot is in the process of being developed into a sixteen thousand square meter it/ites complex. The project is expected to be finished by the year 2017. an orientation-sensitive design that is vaastu-compliant, the edifice is also climatically responsive, where the built form is opened up to capture maximum workable light from the north; with micro winds diverted into the structure via the open north-south spaces and the incorporation of water bodies, green pockets, internal courtyards and stepped levels. There are intelligent offsets formed on each level by free flowing forms that are used as leisure areas, and the ratio of free floor area to total floor area is also free (far). The absence of any formal site influences results in an introverted design, with the architects ingeniously incorporating a harmony between modern materials and technology and simple concepts that have been around for centuries. This results in an interior environment that is both comfortable and aesthetically resplendent. This adaptable design solution that is open to future adaption while still being ideal for current needs is the brain child of ar. anand sharma and his team at dfi. The term “unlimited possibilities” is an excellent way to characterize this brain kid. The roof-top space-frame with glass and polycarbonate panels that the building tapers to and that provides an aerial perspective that loosely resembles a ‘8’ is the most impressive aspect of the project. It was created in an original manner. It is possible to see photographs of this structure by going to the website indiaartndesign.com.
