DERMATOLOGY CLINIQUE D IS INTENDED TO PRIORITIZE THE HEALTH OF THE PATIENT OVER THE EQUIPMENT USED IN MEDICAL CARE.

The dermatological clinic that Ar. L. McComber ltée turns from a mundane location in Quebec into a state-of-the-art and warm and inviting establishment… The provision of comfort is of the utmost significance for patients who are experiencing sensitive skin conditions that are associated with stress. Dr. Danielle Brassard, a dermatologist, desires for her patients to have a sense of relaxation and ease as soon as they enter her clinic. As a consequence of this, the waiting room provides the most beautiful view of the whole area, and patients are encouraged to remove their shoes and assist themselves to coffee or tea while they wait for their turn. Using light, which is an essential component of any dermatological treatment, as the starting point, the design team at L. McComber has opened up the space with an open plan, with translucent elements serving different functions within the clinic, allowing the abundant natural light to filter in all aspects of the surrounding environment. The ceiling is left open in order to create the impression that the space is larger than it really is. The whole room is covered with acoustic tiles. The curving transparent glass walls that enclose the light therapy machines give away their purpose, since they generate a captivating purple light when they are in operation. The machines are positioned in the center of the building, behind the reception area. There is a long reception desk made of solid ash that wraps around this center core, and there are entrances on each end: the main entrance for dermatology, and the entrance for light treatment (secondary entrance). A bright and vibrant service hallway allows nurses, technicians, and doctors to go about their duties in a comfortable manner, away from the interested eyes of the patients. This is made possible by placing the consultation rooms away from the outer wall. There is a long white wall that is accented by six high wooden doors, and it is comprised of six examination rooms that have ceilings made of frosted glass. The relaxation area for the professionals at the clinic has the appearance of a luminous cube due to its towering opalescent glass wall and reduced ceiling. In order to accommodate the varied areas and purposes, programmable leds are hung high and recessed in order to augment the natural light that is there. A sleek and subtle typeface was used in the design of all of the signs, which was created in partnership with the graphic designer atelier chinotto. The 3D parametric extrusion of the 2D logo is a highlight, as the depth of the grooves provides a spectacular dance of light and shadow. clinique d is in agreement with the notion that a complicated and specialized care space does not necessarily have to be dominated by technical equipment.
