We all recognize that so as to empower the minor dealers and makers, the indian government has developed transparent e-marketplace famously known as gem. Small-scale manufacturers and entrepreneurs may now easily register a gem under their company name. A company would therefore have access to the broad interface to market its goods and services to prestigious purchasers from the public sector or PSU, where there is a great need for these suppliers. Nonetheless, the gem department has set some technological requirements in order for the merchants’ products to be uploaded and made accessible for purchase on the gem portal. Government purchasers need premium goods that meet global standards for quality. Sellers must get international accreditations, such as ISO certification, as needed in order to conveniently offer their products on government e-marketplaces. We will now understand the significance of ISO certification for vendors in the government electronic marketplace. Above all, we need to have a quick introduction to the idea of the government e-marketplace. 1. an overview of the government’s online marketplace The Indian government runs an online store called the Government E-Marketplace, or Gem. It is an online interactive marketplace that connects government buyers and sellers to make it easier for them to purchase the products and services that various government agencies, organizations, and public sector projects need. Government agencies now only accept superior items that are devoid of flaws or faults. This is where the ISO certification enters the picture for the vendors on the government e-marketplace. The manufacturers’ ISO certification is now required by the gem department in order for their products to be uploaded and made accessible for purchase on the gem interface. 2. How ISO certification affects the government’s online marketplace There is no question that the ISO 9001:2015 certification and other benchmarks serve as the gold standard for flawless quality management systems (qms). It places emphasis on having a clear framework for quality control for all of an organization’s products, procedures, and systems. The main goal of this standard is to ensure that, to the greatest extent possible, all outcomes of an organization satisfy the requirements and circumstances for all customer fulfillment. Manufacturers holding an OEM jewel registration should have ISO certification for their products, since government agencies place a premium on the quality of the goods they purchase from private vendors. 3. How urgent is it that gem merchants get ISO certification? Important to remember is that only firms registered as original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) on the official government e-marketplace are eligible to get ISO certification in India. The iso certification is requested at certain points from gem oem vendors. They are listed below: a. vendor assessment: the seller must complete the vendor evaluation procedure when the maker receives an OEM panel and a gem registration. The Quality Council of India [QCI] reviews the vendor assessment procedure for quality assurance. The quality council of India (QCI) must perform a quality evaluation on the manufacturer’s products during this phase. The manufacturer may be required to get additional certifications, such as ISO certification, which focuses on the three primary ISO criteria. For quality management systems, ISO 9001:2015; for environmental management systems, ISO 14001:2016; for workplace health and safety, ISO 45001:2018; and for data security management systems, ISO 27001:2012. Upon successful assessment, a non-refundable government fee of INR 11,200/- + 18% gst must be paid. b. submitting an application for a government tender: this is another important step in which the ISO certification is practically necessary. Both the central public procurement portal (cppp) and the gem portal are used by government agencies to announce their needs when it comes to purchasing goods or services. Gem dealers are invited to submit applications for government contracts. The government offices usually state very explicitly in the tender notice that the vendors need to be ISO certified. Furthermore, if the ISO certification is received after the date of tender production, it will not be taken into consideration. b. putting products online The vendor must transfer the objects he wants to sell on the gem portal in order for them to be accessible for purchase. Product posting is the term for this procedure. The vendor must provide the item’s technical characteristics throughout this process. Certain items, like electronics, need for additional requirements, such as ISO certification. Thus, it is evident that manufacturers cannot escape requiring the ISO certification in order to sell their products on the government e-marketplace. Therefore, before registering on the gem portal, vendors are primarily encouraged to get an ISO certification well in advance. In this manner, people may engage with government offices without encountering any obstacles.
