The exhibition features fifteen contemporary examples of alternative approaches to developing architectural designs. .. in a day and age, where progress is measured by ostentatious exteriors, with little or no regard for a look beneath the surface, the goethe-institut joins hands with incite gallery and the likes of committed and conscientious architects like chitra vishwanath and neelam manjunath to showcase the indian leg of the travelling exhibition that focuses on the merits of socially responsible architecture for the lesser privileged sections of our society; before travelling to hanoi, vietnam. It would be impossible to place too much emphasis on the curatorial statement that correctly says “Architecture is currently in a state of crisis: on the one hand, there is what is known as “starchitecture,” which refers to prestigious projects that are carried out by acclaimed architects in order to enhance the image of a select group of wealthy and politically influential clients. On the other hand, there has been a massive rise in the number of building projects carried out in rapidly expanding megacities across Asia, Latin America, and Africa with no architectural supervision whatsoever. In addition, there is an increasing number of people all over the world who are living in slum conditions. Therefore, the goal of the phrase “think global, build social” is to bring up an important question: what kinds of solutions can architecture provide to those parts of the world’s population who do not presently have access to an environment that has been thoughtfully designed? attempting to show by example, curator andres lepik shows scale models of schools, public spaces and residential buildings that have been developed through close collaboration with the future users and also incorporate local building traditions and techniques, where a number of common features can be seen in the various projects and approaches, establishing that a very different kind of movement has been emerging within contemporary architecture for quite some time – one that aims to tackle social issues within a global society. large-format images, as opposed to abstract, two-dimensional building drawings or floor plans, were implemented with the intention of making the design projects accessible to audiences who were not specialists in the field. Incorporating a selection of short videos helps to further emphasize the visual aspect of the presentation. The construction of the exhibition is centered on the use of wooden pallets. Pallets may be piled horizontally to make exhibition tables, positioned upright to create moveable partition walls, and even utilized to provide sitting options for visitors. These pallets serve a number of purposes and can be used in a variety of ways. In addition, the use of standardised pallets highlights the ecological and economic concerns of reusability and sustainability. Inspire gallery, located at number 422, first floor, ninth main, banashankari ii stage, Bengaluru 70 will serve as the venue. dates: October 2nd to October 17th, 2015-2016 Ten o’clock in the morning to seven o’clock in the evening, every day.
