On November 4, 2018, in Carmel, California — The Carmel Academy of Performing Arts (CAPA), in collaboration with Rockstar Dance Studio in Pacific Grove, has made the announcement that Mackenzie King, the Artistic Director and Founder of Moonwater Dance Project, will be performing and leading workshops on January 9 and 12, 2019, in both Pacific Grove and Carmel. King is a graduate of CAPA. Moonwater Dance Project is a contemporary dance group that was founded on the principle that dance and humanity are inextricably linked. The company is situated in Chicago, Illinois. Moonwater is of the opinion that it is of the highest significance to concentrate on the ethical treatment of dancers via collaborative production, demonstrating the dual nature of power and gentleness that is held by every single person. Moonwater has joined up with CAPA and Rockstar to provide seminars at each of their studios in order to encourage the spirit of collaboration that is fundamental to their goal. As a continuation of the contemporary partnering workshop that will take place on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Rockstar Dance Studio, located at 510 Lighthouse Avenue #3 in Pacific Grove, King will also be conducting a repertory workshop on Saturday, January 12, 2019, from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. at CAPA, which is located at the intersection of Mission Street and Eighth Avenue in Carmel. On Saturday, January 12, at seven o’clock in the evening, the Company will provide a performance for the general public at the Carmel Academy of Performing Arts. Following the performance, there will be a question and answer session as well as a reception. There is a fee of thirty dollars for a single workshop. For an additional fee of $50, you may purchase a package offer that includes both seminars, as well as a reduced ticket to the performance on January 12 for just $15. You may get tickets by visiting the website http://www.moonwaterdanceproject.com. Carmel Academy of Performing Arts (831) 624-3729 and Rockstar (831) 375-4200 are the two studios that provide the opportunity to register for workshops. With regard to the Moonwater Dance Project Mackenzie King, the founder of the company, had a successful professional dance career and personally experienced and witnessed a disturbing climate in which individual talent and artistry are ignored, dancers’ minds and bodies are not honored, and there is a disregard for personal spirit. Many of her colleagues also had this experience. Each of Dana Alsamsam’s dancers’ dedication and talents were rewarded by the creation of an artistic, emotional, and physically rewarding performance piece when she launched Moonwater Dance Project and engaged Mackenzie to be a part of a small, one-time performance performed by the group. Mackenzie was inspired by this new ideal, which contrasted with her past experiences, which were less collaborative. She made a commitment to ensure that this atmosphere continues to thrive and develop. After everything was said and done, Ms. Alsamsam kindly presented Ms. King with the name of the company, as well as the first piece of repertory that the group had ever created. In 2018, Moonwater Dance Project was established as a non-profit corporation. Artistry, originality, and the capacity to be vulnerable are the three things that Mackenzie is most concerned about. Many often, artists are exploited and given far less than they deserve, despite the fact that they are passionate about what they do. The ambition of Ms. King is to acknowledge the passion and sacrifice of others without lowering the quality of life for those who are involved. The Moonwater Dance Project has an aesthetic that is reminiscent of water and has a seductive dichotomy. It is gentle but powerful, nurturing and destructive; it is a force that must be reckoned with, even if it is unexpected and completely relaxing.
