Anagram architects’ new studio encourages collaboration and creativity through symbolic design in an open-plan layout… anagram architects, a spatial design consultancy based in New Delhi, is known for delivering innovative, context-specific designs that encourage sustainable lifestyles. This photograph was taken by Beverly Pereira and is courtesy of anagram architects. Naturally, when it came to its own workplace, which was located in the creative hauzkhas enclave of south Delhi, the team didn’t have to go any farther than its own design philosophy for inspiration. Using a combination of notable elements, such as the play of light and an open-plan layout, the office space of 12481 square feet is able to handle the increased number of employees working for the company. In the midst of a light palette consisting of whites and wood tones, lime green accents provide a splash of excitement. Despite the fact that long, wide tables conceal the presence of computers, they encourage free-flowing conversations, debates, and development among individuals working in creative fields, so creating an atmosphere that is evocative of the most fundamental architectural studio. This dynamic appeal is revealed at the entry itself, which is partly hidden, where lime green stairs seem to cut through the open volume of cascading floors that are coated in repurposed wood. This airy zone serves a dual duty as the public face of the studio. During the day, it functions as a spill-out space, and at night, it turns into a place that can be used for performances and casual gatherings. As a result of the fact that the workplace is situated below, one of the most significant problems that the team had to overcome was the task of providing the area with natural light and air. This worry was addressed by including a continuous shaded light well and skylights that border the perimeter of the studio. These skylights bring in diffused light while also reducing the amount of reliance on artificial lighting. Another clever addition to the workplace is a big mural depicting a mechanical ant that is hung on both sides of the back wall of a gallery that is illuminated by ceiling lights. The mural, which was created by the artist Anpu Varkey and given the name ant-1, was conceived with the intention of reflecting the underground nature of the premises while simultaneously drawing a parallel with characteristics such as collective intelligence and shared work, which are best exemplified by an ant.
