The exhibition will be centered on the subject ‘from the earth, for the earth’ and will be housed in a metaphorical pavilion that was created by unstudio. The promotion of the sharing of cultural practices, technological know-how, and horticulture information is going to be the central focus of the exhibition. its design commission was opened up through a competition all the way back in 2011, and unstudio was the winner. unstudio combines expert knowledge of logistics, spatial organization, specialized typology, future flexible usability, function programming, facade intelligence, user comfort, and sustainable design. Ben van Berkel, of unstudio, is quoted as saying, “the architecture of the theme pavilion spills out into the surrounding nature and engages with it in meaningful ways.” The forms of the pavilion buildings are a response to the nearby mountains, with their carefully composed rooftops functioning as plateaus. Each of the pavilion buildings addresses a different portion of the master plan by using a different inclination and terracing, and they provide panoramic views that extend far into the surrounding landscape. It makes a reference to the idea that a structure might invite public participation by opening up and becoming more accessible. The form of the china rose, which is the official flower of the city of Qingdao, was used as the inspiration for the architectural design gesture for the 28,000 square meter pavilion. This shape was then turned into the floor plan arrangement of the design. Its four pavilion volumes, sometimes known as ‘petals,’ are linked to one another by internal and outdoor pathways, and they enclose a central square. The square functions as a’stage’ for the visitors, since it is a dynamic focal point that is surrounded by vistas on varied elevations. Flowers in the spring, shade in the summer, fruits in the fall, and greenery in the winter are some of the themes that are featured in monthly-programmed and seasonally-themed activities that take place on the platform that the theme pavilion provides. This color scheme is also mirrored in the facade components, which are created from aluminum panels that have been folded vertically. The four colors that make up the motif—green, yellow, orange, and blue—are applied along the lengths of the vertical folds. Depending on the perspective, some of these colors are visible while others are not. After the global horticulture expo in 2014, the landscape art themed expo park will become a new site for eco-tourism. As a result, the emphasis of tourism in Qingdao will move from sightseeing to relaxation. unstudio collaborated with the event’s organizers to include a potential future lifespan into the design of the theme pavilion. This was accomplished by making it feasible for the structures to be transformed into a hotel building that has conference and teaching facilities. The potential uses of the theme pavilion in the future are taken into consideration throughout the design process, and this information is then written into the design’s DNA.
