Surface pattern designer Kirath Ghundoo, who is located in the United Kingdom, uses surfaces that are colorful, quirky, and whimsical in order to create a dramatic effect for the Mexican lifestyle salon franchise known as Wax Revolution. The field of surface design is all about change and/or the enhancement it brings about to an atmosphere, which may be practical as well as attractive. Surface design is a business related to change. As an example, Kirath took the client’s requirement into consideration while designing a feature wall for the big reception area of the salon. The goal was to build a wall that would immediately attract attention. The design of the laboratories was customized on an individual basis (using separate patterns and colors) in order to distinguish between each of the rooms. These designs were then printed onto vinyl in order to make them easier to maintain. The incorporation of patterns into the walls of this salon creates an atmosphere of understated mystery. The shell has been purposefully left neutral in order to give the design the opportunity to speak without becoming overpowering. By effectively pulling out the soul of the space, the artist transcends beyond the confines of her studio setting to comprehend that the salon (project) in question is not only the recipient of surface intervention; rather, it also serves as the source of inspiration for her unique work. Due to this, Kirath decided to take inspiration from the carnival-like joyful colors of Mexico. She decided to temper the brilliant hues into peaceful pastels, taking into consideration that a salon is a place where one may come to rest and revitalize himself. Similarly, she has aligned angular and straight-lined geometric shapes in order to fit with the company’s quirky and whimsical character. This is done without the use of a prominent circular shape. A surface pattern that is created on a fabric will exude a completely different vibe in terms of textures, depth of colors, finishes, durability, and other aspects, in comparison to the same pattern that is created on concrete. This is due to the fact that a diverse material palette plays a crucial role in either highlighting or subduing an artwork. For this particular instance, the matt vinyl designs conjure up feelings of understated refinement and delicacy, which are totally in tune with the salon. The fact that surface patterns are not just significant in the realm of interior design and architecture is something that should be mentioned. Surface patterns are also relevant in a variety of other sectors, including healthcare, transportation, and even fashion.
