It is not hard to comprehend why people who live in cities have a strong desire to reconnect with nature. An attempt was made by Ar. Rajesh Patel to satisfy one of these cravings by designing the “Pavana bungalow,” which is a vacation house that is 5000 square feet in size and is built on a farmland that is three acres in size in Lonavala. It is designed to give “balmy nature” to its residents. With its location in the middle of enviously peaceful surroundings and its ability to pull everything into its folds, the Pavana Bungalow does a perfect job of fulfilling the function that it has set out to perform, which is that of a weekend getaway. In light of the fact that the role has inherent maintenance concerns, the design makes sure to give this component similar weightage, if not greater weightage. In light of the fact that minimizing operations connected to maintenance was becoming more important, keeping the building resistant to monsoons was a top concern. In accordance with this, a traditional hut-style ceiling has been chosen over slab roofing, and it has become the defining characteristic of the bungalow, which is constructed of rcc girders and a steel roof. The design counteracts the onslaught of the monsoon from above by adding layers of waterproofing ply, shuttering ply, and corrugated bitumen sheets to the steel roof. Additionally, the design counteracts the onslaught of the monsoon from below by incorporating sizeable cantilevered protrusions of the roof on the eastern and western fronts, which measure two meters. This is accomplished by cladding the whole facade of the building with stone that has been covered with cement epoxy. The inside walls of the house are protected from the impacts of the monsoon by a lining of waterproofing material, while the outside walls are protected by cladding. The architect came to the conclusion that slab casting of the floor at all levels would be the best way to avoid seepage from below. Large windows that face west and bitumen sheets on the roof both work together to effectively insulate the home from the sun’s intense beams. The choice about the orientation of the bungalow in the east-west direction is determined by the position of the plot, which is a vantage point that provides a breathtaking view of a large lake and is located to the west. A flawless view of the lake, distant mountains, and a winding mini-pool on the terrace deck can be seen from the full-length windows that are located on the western face of the living room. The use of a neutral color palette consisting of beige and brown, together with a style that is unobtrusive and basic, serves to accentuate the lovely surroundings. a dose of detoxification for the stressed-out head of the metropolitan dweller; assured refreshment… Indiaartndesign.com has some pictures of this bungalow that you may see by clicking here.
