jasubhai media pvt. ltd. conceived of and organized the 3610 conference in 2015, which was an egalitarian forum for the discussion of discourse in architecture and design. brought to the forefront what exactly occurs behind the scenes and inside the mind of an architect… when you try to delve behind the concept of a design, you often hear the architect or designer attribute it to a random thought, amongst a host of other inspirations. brought to the forefront what exactly goes on behind the scenes and inside the mind of an architect. Taking this concept a step further and going a bit deeper than the surface, the conference was successful in capturing the innovative and forward-thinking character of design in the global realm of build-and-make. After two and a half days of intellectually engaging design banter some of it extremely serious and exhilarating, and some of it entertaining and educational a platform was established in its aftermath that provided impetus to the power of concepts, ideas, and the execution of architecture and design. The core idea behind dis.architecture… discourse, intuition, and grammar in architecture were investigated, explained, and dissected by thirteen highly regarded key note speakers from diverse places all over the globe. The programme was kicked off by the humorous and gifted master architect massimiliano fuksas from rome. while several other architects – ar. boonserm premthada, , dr. singh intrachooto, ar. alberto kalach, ar. premanand chandavarkar, ar. rachel neeson, ar. vinod jayasinghe etc. were speakers, whose presentations and content were a wide spectrum of various natures of discourse in architecture that ranged from scrap material, music and dance to indian mythology and sciences. Sheila Sri Prakash, AR, argued and validated her theory of resonance vs. bhavas (as in music and dance) by emphasizing the obligation of the architect to his customer. This was done when she gained an awareness of the parallels that exist between dance and architecture. “while envisioning the tale of the design, an architect is need to take into mind both the location and the materials.” The design may then be brought to life by adding layers of lights and drama to the mix. She demonstrated this by giving an example from her own studio in Chennai, which she described as having old doors carved so artistically that they were mounted on the ceilings. She then covered these doors with glass and added lights to create drama while also preserving priceless pieces of Indian art. “people need to fall in love with our buildings,” stated ar.wendell burnette, highlighting the need of using context as material for a project. “people need to fall in love with our structures.” “look at the site, the surroundings/ambiance, the locally available material and then design projects so that they speak to the residents/home owners/clients/patrons etc.,” he advised, almost all of his projects deeply rooted in context. “look at the site, the surroundings/ambiance, the locally available material and then design projects so that they speak to the residents/home owners/clients/patrons etc.” peter cleg is a founding partner of the feilden cleg bradley studios situated in the United Kingdom. a guy who is well recognized as a pioneer in the area of environmental design and who has accumulated over 30 years of expertise in low-energy building commanded a filled auditorium with his emphasis on “architecture of relevance.” Another outstanding talk was given by ar. ashish ganju, which ran beyond its allotted time without drawing even the slightest bit of criticism and was, in fact, honored by a reverent quiet. He gave an interesting example of a monastery that he had created for Tibetan Refugee Nuns in Dharamshala as an illustration of his work, which is primarily concerned with the study and development of sustainable architecture and design in the Himalayas. He guided the audience through his thinking process behind the harmonious living environment by presenting a succession of gorgeous photographs of the structure, interwoven with his learning from old philosophical systems such as Buddhism and Vedanta Yoga. At the conclusion of this session, he made a request to the industry experts in the audience, asking them to collaborate with him on the creation of a national museum of architecture that would be comprised of a network of museums in india. The talk given by osamu ishiyama, an architect and writer from Japan, shed insight on how architects have responded to natural disasters. According to him, this method of approaching architecture demands the design of nature that has been manipulated by humans, in which case nature itself becomes the architecture of a city or area. The most important takeaway from the discussion was that any design process must adhere to the following criteria: it must be inclusive, it must be iterative, it must be transactional, it must be equitable, and it must be reciprocal in order to be comprehensive and useful to all stakeholders. pictures from the conference may be seen on indiaartndesign.com by clicking this link.
