During the month of February in 2014, the authorities of Tlalpan visited the neighborhoods, colonies, and communities that were under the jurisdiction of the delegation in order to distribute silbatos that served as a preventative alert in the event of violence against women or any other potentially dangerous situation within the community. Additionally, more than four million silbatos were distributed throughout forty distinct zones. During the month of March in the current year, the campaign known as “Red Violeta” was introduced in the state of Mexico. This campaign was supported by 22 organizations that are part of the civil society. These organizations came up with the idea of a kit that includes a silbato, a bolsillo wallet, and a capacity to prevent assaults. From the beginning, Indira Sandoval, who was the coordinator of the campaign, said that it was important for women to not only be aware of their rights but also to have a mechanism for self-defense. Aside from the Zona Metropolitana, there is also an effort to eradicate violence. Students from the Preparatoria 20 of the University of Guadalajara have been distributing silences among themselves in order to assist one another in times of danger and to make amends for the indifference. They have been doing whatever they can, which is as simple as arranging an artifact in order to attract attention. “Usa el silbato, para hacer ruido” was put forth by the women of Iguala, Guerrero, who went back to the social media platforms in order to participate in the election. To my mind, there is no need for any more explanation; what is of utmost importance is prevention.
