The conference provided a forum for discussion regarding architecture and encouraged thought-provoking conversation regarding important issues facing the field. This was the buzz at the thematic of 3610 conference – the annual signature event from the jasubhai media stable under the aegis of the indian architect & builder magazine. loads of students – gushing with excitement, questioning, and imbibing; a bevy of professionals from various genres and design expertise, and eager to make a point in the layered dialogue of ‘architecture & identity’; this was the buzz at the conference. So, what did I anticipate learning about when I went to the architecture and identity conference? The image that popped into my head was more about how architecture and the dialogue between the built form and individual needs, each time, initiates and sustains a unique identity. This identity not only becomes a signature of the inhabitant and that of the architect or designer, but it also contributes to the language of a community, a place, a state, and therefore a country. I was interested in expanding my understanding of how architecture and identity might connect with one another on a single platform and wanted to see what the veterans had to say about this topic. 3610 was an interaction, a conversation, and a sharing that shed light on the bigger picture of identity and our constructed surrounds. It was a delightful experience that left participants feeling full in the mind. The core of the issue at hand was dissected from a variety of perspectives, despite the fact that the structure remained the same throughout, consisting of presentations of a certain sort that were alternated with presentations given by required sponsors and partners. The speakers came from a variety of different backgrounds, which resulted in a wide range of thoughts and ideas. These speakers provided insights into other nations and cities that the audience may not have otherwise visited. The issues of history, politics, economics, religion, principles, methods, sociology, landscape, conservation, and environment were among the topics that were discussed at the conference. The focus of the conference was on people and practices whose work and philosophy takes a stand on architecture and identity within the context of their region. Some of the ideas that made an impression on me were as follows: • If you are not thinking critically, then you are not thinking! • When celebrating the multiple identities of the Indian habitat, there is no divide based on caste, creed, or economic status during our religious festivals and processions. Connectivity is an important foundation to identity. Identity is holistic, meaning that the micro and the macro are intertwined. Identity is the aggregation of numerous constants. Identity is unique. We can adapt to anything we want to accomplish. • Architecture is centered on cultural traditions and •Uniqueness originates from within To summarize, I can think of one unifying thought: architecture is frequently a conversation with the history of a place. It is a looking back, culling in the present, contextual, metaphorical, and futuristic… hopping borders and then looking at things locally, tying them together into their unique ethos.
