In their project titled “mill24” in Vienna, Caramel Architects is a proponent of the idea of transparency and mobility. In this project, architecture can be seen hanging between the interior and the exterior of the building… The notion of transparency in this house creates the appearance of immensity in a composition that is otherwise predetermined, despite the fact that it is situated in a neighborhood that is quite cramped. The house is designed in such a way that practically all of the rooms are located on different levels and open out in different directions. This gives the home a unique aspect and contributes to the overall natural beauty of the home. Due to the fact that the roof shown the potential for extension, it is now able to accommodate a roof garden, which, incidentally, has become the starting point of the design. Access to all of the rooms is gained via the garden, which serves as the focal point of the design and incorporates openness into the layout. The only enclosed spaces are the bedrooms and the home office, which are connected to the outside through glazed doors and walls. Mesh screens and transparent walls and doors allow for simultaneous perception of spaces. This is because the living, dining, and kitchen areas are all connected to the outside spaces. The inside-outside equation, which includes 172.29 square meters of living spaces and 71.96 square meters of terraces, is enhanced by the volumetric arrangement of rooms and the spatial continuity of those areas. At the same time as they release spatial tension in a rhythmic sequence, all of the materials and components that were employed promote openness, lightness, and introspection. The fair-faced surfaces of the materials that were selected allow for permeability, lightness, and reflection. This begins with the glass doors and walls. The building’s framework is made of recycled thin shell concrete, and the roof and balustrades are constructed with a synthetic top layer that is light gray in color. Screed that has been polished, varnished, and made translucent is used for the flooring, and colored sealants are used in the restroom walls. Furthermore, the colors that have been integrated are shades of white, blue, and green, all of which serve to support the feeling of openness. There is access to circulation at all floors thanks to a stairway that is protected with mesh screens. Through the implementation of this project, the two polar opposites of “Nature and Architecture” have been brought together, so reducing the tension that existed between the spaces and creating areas that are unforgettable throughout the building.
