During the course of a two-week summer sports camp in Vichy, France, participants will have the opportunity to take part in both athletic and culinary training. All of the events are conducted in French, and the available sporting options include tennis, basketball, soccer, and a multi-sport option. lyon, Rhone, on the 5th of February 2014 – nacel international is pleased to announce the launch of a fresh new course designed specifically for foreign students who wish to improve their French language skills during the summer while also participating in their favorite sports. The summer camps that are run by our sports affiliate, Sports Elites Jeunes (SEJ), now offer campers the opportunity to take French cooking classes in the morning, followed by training in basketball, tennis, or soccer in the afternoon. Alternatively, campers can participate in the multisport camp, which teaches them a new sport every day, such as rafting, badminton, volleyball, and more. The benefit of participating in these camps is the opportunity to immerse oneself in the French language by living, training, and studying in France, where the vast majority of students, coaches, and staff members speak French. Students who attend the camps to enhance their physical abilities now have the option of substituting the three hours of language instruction that have been the standard up to this point with a morning session devoted to the study of French cuisine. The cooking class, which is led by a renowned chef, covers basic cooking methods as well as dishes that are straightforward and simple enough to be made at home. The training is designed to stimulate all five of a student’s senses—smell, sight, hearing, touch, and taste—through hands-on experience. The classes are held in a teaching kitchen that has been designed specifically for that purpose. There will be an introduction to the sensation of taste, as well as discussions on measuring ingredients, conversions, the seasonality of foods, and more. Other subjects, such as sports nutrition, will also be covered. Students will have the chance to practice a broad variety of terminology throughout the lessons, which will be taught in French. The classes will concentrate on the selection and preparation of ingredients, as well as the methods and instruments used throughout the process. Not only will international students return home with improved athletic abilities, a cultural experience in France, and new friends, but they will also be able to share their favorite recipes from the following list (and more) of mouth watering delights with their families and friends when they return. * verrine of turkey with smoked salmon and crevettes * crumble of red fruits * crepes suzette * chocolate fondant * The beginning dates for each of the two-week sessions of the sports summer camps are the 29th of June, the 13th and 27th of July, and the 10th of August. Staff members from nacel pick up registered campers at the Paris international airport and accompany them to the train station, where the campers meet up with other campers who are also heading to vichy by train. On the first day of camp, all of the campers arrive by 5 p.m., in time for the evening ice breaker activities. These are the activities in which the coaches introduce the program for the week, play games with the students to get everyone talking, and help the campers settle into the residence hall with their new roommates. Because a single session of a sporting activity may accommodate up to one hundred participants, the camps are dispersed throughout four different campuses in vichy, depending on the sport that is being taught. Students enrolled in the culinary class have the opportunity to socialize with attendees of other camps during the morning session, expanding their pool of potential new acquaintances. In the afternoon, they participate in the same sports training sessions as those students who choose to take other electives in the morning, such as language classes taught in French, English, and Spanish, or rigorous sports alternatives. Once again, because of the large number of children that sign up for the nacel sports summer camps, the campers will be divided into teams based on their age as well as their current level of skill. There is one coach for every six to nine players, depending on the sport. Coaches often engage with students beyond training hours, delivering a high degree of personal attention to the development of each player’s specific skills. A great number of coaches continue to attend the camps year after year because they believe they provide an unrivaled opportunity for young athletes to develop a love of sport in a supportive setting. Frequently, they are former campers who would want to provide younger people with the same level of attention that was provided to them when they were younger. The cost of the cooking + sport options is 1,580 euros for soccer, basketball, and the multisport options, and the cost of the cooking + tennis options is 1,695 euros (based on the euro exchange rate on January 27, 2014, this is approximately $2,160 and $2,320 respectively). This price includes airport transfers, shared residential accommodations, full board, a cooking course, and sports training.
