Located in Jingdezhen, the city that is considered to be the porcelain capital of China, the Sanbao Art Museum is a breathtaking display of inventiveness that showcases a variety of porcelain art. There is a nascent, dynamic, porcelain-centric hub in Sanbao village, which is located not far from the Central City of Jingdezhen in China. This hub is comprised of porcelain artists’ studios and industries related to porcelain. As a result, the environment is extremely competitive, and it takes a great deal of ingenuity and unending efforts to be the best. A passionate connection exists between the artists and their creations, similar to the sensation of falling in love for the first time. This relationship involves indirect probing, exploring, bargaining, and subtle maneuvering and manipulation. And the transformation that takes place in the pottery kilns is comparable to the process of developing films; it is full of uncertainties, just like the photographers have projected their best imaginations onto the films, but the results will not be revealed until after the obligatory time spent in the dark room! To put it another way, it is precisely these dangers and ambiguities that call for attention to detail and sensitivity; the might of the mind contrasted with a passionate melody in the heart… A great example of romanticism! An art museum in this environment not only creates an interactive place to foster reciprocal contact between visitors and the area, both emotionally and behaviorally, but it also instills sensitivity and creativity in its visitors. Although the museum is 150 meters in length, it has a nonlinear flow of visitors since there are various pathways for them to investigate. The museum has a superficially linear form. The goal is to increase the amount of serendipity that occurs between people and settings. Architecture is responsible for the environment that visitors experience and with which they form personal relationships. In order to create a poetic mood, the walls, which are the most significant component in determining the exhibition space and atmosphere, are constructed out of rammed earth. Rammed earth walls that are four meters high sprout from the ground surrounding the main tunnel, which is a large, translucent chamber that is one hundred meters long. Rammed earth, titanium zinc panels, and travertine are some of the major materials that were utilized in the construction of the museum. Over time, these materials will deteriorate. The process of erosion is analogous to the fermentation of wine; throughout this process, time imparts its distinctive flavor. Additionally, the town of Sanbao naturally generates a distinctive soil that is somewhat red in color. As a result, the continuity of the loam walls is constructed with clay from the surrounding area, which provides a sense of familiarity and tension. When tourists stroll through various places, they are drawn to the extended eaves that are located after the forests area. This results in a variety of experiences. It is the sound of the streams that helps tourists relax, while the things that lay ahead of them carry them farther into a world that is both mysterious and wonderful. As a result of the interaction between the tourists and the building, each tour creates a narrative that includes elements of discovery, anticipation, waiting, anxiety, disappointment, and delight. DL atelier was just awarded the American Architecture Prize in the cultural architecture category for their work on the Sanbaopeng Art Museum project.
