The design of the naturally illuminated route is based on light stones, which will be utilized to form patterns on the path. These light stones will charge throughout the day and produce light in the evening after the sun has set. This results in a play between the light and poetry. A contemporary perspective on Vincent van Gogh is provided by the design in this manner. In this fresh and open-air setting, cultural heritage and inventiveness come together. The initial impressions were recently given on october 24, 2013, at the symposium titled “leadership in leisure,” which was organized by the province of Noord-Brabant and held in Eindhoven as a part of the Dutch Design Week. The light-emitting methods of the smart highway idea are implemented on the roosegaarde-van gogh cycling route. This concept was developed jointly by studio roosegaarde and heijmans for the highway of the future. Since that time, we have began making preparations for the first experimental run of the novel cycling route. This will be the first cycling route of its sort anywhere in the world if the plans come to fruition in 2014 and the full design is ready to be experienced by that year.
