Photographed by Daan Roosegaarde of Team iand; used with permission from Studio Roosegaarde Soon, in 2014, the area of Eindhoven in the Netherlands, where Vincent van Gogh resided between the years 1883 and 1885, will get the first creative cycling path consisting thousands of dazzling stones created by artist daan roosegaarde. the 600-meter cycling path that is now being planned by studio roosegaarde and heijmans is a part of a joint venture between the municipality of eindhoven, van gogh brabant, vrijetijdshuis brabant, eindhoven 365, and routebureau brabant.. The design of the naturally illuminated route is based on light stones, which will be utilized to form patterns on the path. These light stones will charge throughout the day and produce light in the evening after the sun has set. Because of this, a play of light and poetry is created. The design executed in this manner offers a contemporary version of Vincent van Gogh’s work. In this contemporary public space, cultural heritage and innovative practices come together. The initial impressions were recently presented at the symposium ‘leading in leisure’ on october 24, 2013, as part of the dutch design week in eindhoven. This event was an initiative of the province of noord-brabant. The roosegaarde-van gogh cycling route utilizes the light-emitting methods of the smart highway idea, which was developed jointly by studio roosegaarde and heijmans for the highway of the future. This concept was used in the creation of the roosegaarde-van gogh bicycle path. Since that time, we have began making preparations for the inaugural pilot of the revolutionary cycling route. According to the current blueprints, the completed bike route should be rideable by the year 2014, which would make it the very first bicycle path of its sort anywhere in the globe.
