At MMA Pacific Street, which is located at 559 Pacific Street in Monterey, the Monterey Museum of Art (MMA) is happy to offer The 2018 Weston Scholarship Exhibition, which will take place from May 10th to July 8th, 2018. February 29, 2018, Monterey, California – At MMA Pacific Street, which is located at 559 Pacific Street in Monterey, the Monterey Museum of Art (MMA) is happy to offer The 2018 Weston Scholarship Exhibition, which will take place from May 10th to July 8th, 2018. On the evening of Friday, May 11, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., there will be an opening reception as well as an awards ceremony. Admission to the reception is $10 for the general public, however Museum Members are not required to pay to attend the event. The Weston Scholarship ensures that the time-honored method of developing black-and-white fine art photography continues to be practiced, following in the footsteps of Edward Weston and Ansel Adams. Through the exhibition of the next generation of photographers from Monterey County, the Museum establishes a connection between our community and this tradition. Gina and Kim Weston established the Weston Scholarship in 2004 with the intention of providing financial assistance to high school and college students in Monterey County who are pursuing a degree in fine art photography. The scholarship is particularly geared toward students who are engaged in the practice of analogue black and white photography. When it comes to cultivating a medium that they both like, Gina and Kim both have the same goal in mind: to promote photography education. Scholarships, mentorships, exhibits, seminars, publications, talks, video, and artists in residence are some of the ways in which they provide students, artists, educators, and members of the community with the chance to explore the depth of photography. The Monterey Museum of Art is home to a prestigious collection of photographs from the Central Coast of California. By displaying the next generation of photographers from Monterey County, the Monterey Museum of Art (MMA) helps to link our community to this photographic tradition.
