This event will take place on the 20th, 21st, and 22nd of April from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. On April 3, 2018, in Salinas, California – This Wildflower Show has been one of the biggest in the Northern and Western Hemispheres for more than half a century, and it features more than 600 different kinds and types of wildflowers. Indeed, this is an occasion that will be remembered by families for many centuries to come. In order to put on this treasured yearly event, the Museum collaborates with the Monterey Bay Chapter of the California Native Plant Society (CNPS). There are more than thirty members of the Native Plant Society that spend more than a week searching across Monterey County and beyond in order to gather the best examples of wildflowers that are blooming throughout the springtime. This extensive and magnificent assortment of wildflowers will be appreciated by botanists, garden lovers, and even those who are just seeking for flowers that they would want to grow in their own gardens. Wildflower Show and Museum Admission (tickets can be purchased when you arrive at the Museum): · $8.95 for adults who live outside of Monterey County · $5.95 for youth between the ages of 4 and 18, students with identification, and military personnel who live outside of Monterey County · Free for children aged 3 and under · Free for Museum Members and CNPS Members · $5 admission for residents of Monterey County The Amusement of Wildflower Month Continues! Classes are available for children from kindergarten all the way up to fifth grade. A Powerful Flower CONVERTING SOMETHING SMALL INTO SOMETHING LARGE: 7th of April, 9:00 to 10:30 AM Artists will take our little flowers and use oil pastels and tempera paint to create gigantic wild flower paintings. The cost is $25 for non-members and $20 for members. THE 14TH OF APRIL, 9:00 AM TO 10:30 AM FLOWER CHALK $40 for non-members and $20 for members The use of chalk pastels will allow artists to blend their expertise in sketching wildflowers. BOOKS OF NOTES OF WILDFLOWER (THE 21ST OF APRIL, 9:00-10:30 AM) A non-member fee of $25 Twenty dollars: Member The Native Plant Show will provide artists with the opportunity to engage in the creation of a miniature wildflower book using pen and paper. Attendees will be artists who will sketch what they observe during the exhibition. Stuffies that are stitched MONDAY, APRIL 28TH, 9:00-9:30 AM $40 for non-members and $20 for members Felt wildflowers will be stitched and created by the artists that participate. Make a stuffy out of them, or use them to decorate your garments, purses, jackets, and hair ties! Art Sessions for Adults THE ART OF SKETCHING FLOWERS: AN INTRODUCTION The 14th of April, from 3 to 5 o’clock $30 for non-members and $25 for members A scientific illustrator will teach you fundamental sketching skills for botanical subjects throughout the course of a day. First, we will go over basic botanical anatomy, then we will spend some time intently watching native California wildflowers, and finally, we will practice observational sketching by utilizing these blossoms as our inspiration. All degrees of expertise are welcome. BOUQUETS AND RIDES OF BEER Between the 8th and 29th of April $40 for non-members and $35 for members While we tour the native plant garden at the Museum, we invite you to join us for a drink. You will get the chance to acquire the knowledge and abilities necessary to sketch the local flora as well as learn more about it. In this lesson, your instructor, Liana Vitousak, will walk you through the fundamentals of plant identification and teach you how to capture what you see in the field via drawings and notes.
