Photographs taken by marina correa; with thanks. the builders or builders A mansion in Hyderabad that is 7,000 square feet in size has ceilings that are interesting and create elegant statements… Principal designers riyaz and simeen quraishi of moriq interiors and design consultants were initially hesitant when they were approached solely for designing the interiors. However, when they saw the circular staircase on site, their initial inhibitions were transformed into an eager desire to take on the challenge. The design solution took advantage of the double-height ceiling and veered toward creating a timeless appeal that would play on the fifth element of the home rather than the easily visible walls, despite the fact that the staircase had to be relocated to the exact opposite direction due to vaastu reasons. As a consequence of this, we have a cutting-edge crystal chandelier that hangs in the dining area, which is complemented by the traditional curve of the circular staircase. Additionally, the family room has a drop ceiling in the form of a funnel, which draws the eye. The children’s room has a slanted roof that is evocative of a fairytale cottage. This is dutifully complimented by warm cedar wood tones on the closets, as well as dashes of color coming through the furniture and accessories, which imparts a mythical appearance and feel to the space. A herringbone pattern is etched into the walnut hardwood wall panel in the formal lounge, and it extends onto the tv panel, although in a bigger impression. This is an example of the modern and classical styles coming together in the room. Beams with a scalloped border swing above the contemporary furnishings. Even the patio is partly enclosed with wooden slats, and the huge columns give the impression that they are part of a badminton court. “the primary goal was to break the straight lines of the ceilings and provide character to spaces,” adds simeen. “This was accomplished by adding character to the spaces.” In a setting that is predominated by earthy tones, the atmosphere is luxuriant and speaks of luxury via little pockets; for example, a stunning diamond pattern can be observed on several doors; chosen antiques; and other such details. However, the coziness of wood and white, as well as the juxtaposition of slopes and circles, are what bring the different ceilings in this fascinating room we call home together as one.
