Photography by Udita Chaturvedi; kind permission requested. the person who designed it yamin mustafa mohiuddin is a self-taught interior architect and furniture designer whose ideas and creations represent his enthusiasm and high quality standard in order to ensure that ‘each item is worth passing on for generations. ‘ Yamin has been working in this field for more than a decade, and throughout that time he has carved out quite a special place for himself. His philosophy is that every one of his creations need to be ‘aesthetic in appeal, useful in function, and perceptible as art. ‘ At the London Design Festival 2013, Yamin will present two creative works that were created just for the occasion. The ‘heart of wood lamp’ has a design that is both visually pleasing and in tune with the natural world. The handcrafted lamp is 68 inches in height and is largely constructed using cross-sections of a log. It is supported by a base made of teakwood and has three legs. Cane that has been hand-woven is used to create an elaborate wrapping around the lamp shade, giving it the appearance of old-fashioned, traditional artwork. His work is characterized by a synthesis of traditional and modern approaches to the craft of furniture manufacture. They are sophisticated in appearance and conventional in use, and as a result, they are suitable for use in any household. yamin’s next project is a concept table called ‘the peacock console, ‘ and it is inspired by the peacock, which is the national bird of india. Yamin has an exceptional sense of design to match his creative mind. It is crafted by hand using 55 slats of lightweight pine wood, of which 33 form the body of the table and interlock into each other giving it a twisted design that would stand out as a gorgeous centerpiece in anyone’s living space. The remaining slats have a beveled edge on the inside, similar to the shape of the peacock’s two sets of wings. Additionally, the nuts that have been secured have been skillfully covered with teakwood pyramid knobs that have been fashioned into the bird’s eyes. ‘quality, complexity, and out-of-the-box thoughts and design to make people’s dream place into reality ‘ is the mission statement of yamin, an interior design company.
