All of the exercises up to this point have been carried out in an open space, and there has been a tight transition between each step. Since the air currents may alter the scent in a way that requires the dog to scrutinize it attentively in order to identify and track it, the difficulty of smell is heightened in these activities. You must thus carefully organize these activities. A spot of hiding for the scent and a dummy around its edge, where the dog may detect the odor, must be included in the building choosing process.For every activity in this training, you are only allowed to cover up one scent. The dog shouldn’t be forced to investigate an area where there has previously been a scent in order to avoid confusing him. ‘Smell’ will react as a consequence of this. A scent may penetrate a space and remain there for an indefinite period of time after the material has been removed, depending on a number of variables. As a result, a dog will become puzzled if he smells anything and doesn’t get rewarded. This may easily and swiftly lead to the dog losing interest in seeking out, detecting, and reacting to scents. The fragrance of the exercise should be carried toward the dog’s starting point by the wind and air currents while the first preparations are made. Additionally, the odor should be hidden in a way that promotes favorable odour availability and, thus, simple detection.
