In essence, bugging out is an escape plan designed to minimize damage and ensure that you reach a secure location in the event of a catastrophe or other emergency that prevents you from remaining at your house. Usually, it involves moving from an urban to a rural location with a bug out bag (bob). A bug out bag is a bag that contains essential items and equipment to enable someone survive in a variety of weather situations. Why? Others ask why would someone go the extent to plan for something that may never happen? This prompts me to ask, Why wouldn’t you? Most of the time, an emergency arises that calls for the utilization of a bug out bag or plan. Consider Hurricane Katrina as an example. There was violence and looting during the first chaos. The authorities took considerable time to provide supplies and assistance to the 25,000 individuals who were forced to seek shelter in the superdome. 1. Bugging out into the wild: this is just not a practical choice for most individuals. Consider it rationally. There has been a catastrophe (wildfire, flood, storm, etc.) that was severe enough to drive you from your house. It would imply that thousands or maybe hundreds of thousands of other individuals would have to go as well. It is not advisable to go into either public or private land since others will attempt to access it as well (and you can be sure that the landowners will be searching for those who do this). There will be an overabundance of people, an unsafe situation, or a full hotel, shelter, rest area, or camping. It could be better to simply meet up at a friend’s or family member’s home, unless you own some excellent acreage that’s isolated enough not to attract notice, or a site that’s well concealed and not many people know about. Recall that you are risking your life here; this is not some manly live off the land mentality. #2: To go from point a to point b, I would only need to walk xyz kilometers. It’s fantastic that you have this much planned and that you are familiar with the area. But it’s more than simply strolling. It involves walking with an entirely packed bag, bulkier clothing (according on the season), and more supplies. Depending on how much you’ve brought, this trek may be rather taxing. and have you considered unanticipated difficulties? What happens if you have to cross a street where a gang has taken over an office, apartment building, or park amid the chaos? Are you going to detour for an additional two hours? What about the weather? What if you are forced to walk for just six hours a day due to intense heat or cold? Which nighttime overwatch locations are good? Which regions are secure and which ones should you stay away from? What happens if you can’t pass the flooded shortcut over the creek? Do you have up-to-date maps? For each route, create two plans. #3: the understated bug out pack Okay, I get the tactical benefit and difficulty of packing as little as possible. And more power to the MacGyver who can survive on only toothpaste, duct tape, and a paperclip. However, the majority of minimalist bug out packs are lacking essential parts. What would happen if the only space blanket you have to purify your water was torn or if your water filter was polluted, fell in while you were jogging, etc.? Recall that the purpose of a bug out bag is to have backups (and sometimes backups for your backups). The contents of your backpack should enable you to conquer any obstacle that stands in your way. #4: I’m not saying it’s a horrible concept, but the vacuum-sealed bug out bag. However, there are a few things to watch out for while vacuum sealing a bug out bag. The first is that you are quickly sealing anything you may need. You’ll have to take hold of the sealed things, cut them open, and utilize them then rather than merely reaching in and getting what you need. Another disadvantage is that you may need to vacuum seal everything again if you vacuum seal too much and then open it all. #5: You’re begging to be shot if you dress like you’re going to a war: This one is more about the usefulness of what you’re wearing than it is about your purse. That’s not the problem since, to the majority of people, a bag is a bag regardless of its color or size. Someone could desire a bag, whether it’s bright red or camouflage, if they see you carrying one. It doesn’t matter whether they could utilize it or not. But if you’re dressed entirely in Chinese military gear, you can start to seem more like a target with some excellent supplies than just a guy carrying a backpack. This is Jeff from Survival Hour.
