Penda, an international design company that is well-known for its cross-cultural subtleties, is now landscaping a residential society in Hyderabad. The idea for this project came from Indian step wells and water mazes. Panda’s landscape design for the real estate company Pooja Crafted Homes finds resonance in the simply derived function of step wells and the soft landscape elements of water mazes. These elements lend the amenity space a brand new vista by incorporating shrubs, herbs, flowering plants, and built-in benches. The design was created by combining the positive aspects of historical, urban scale, and communal landscapes. According to the opinion of the Panda team, “it is quite uncommon to come across an architectural typology in which the function and beauty of the building are so intricately entwined and a harmony of human requirements and environmental effect is so in balance.” This principle is easily implemented in this location by constructing stairs and filling them with planters, both blooming and non-flowering, that run throughout the whole breadth. This allows for tiny private zones that lead into bigger sections that are more open to the public. The landscape design is comprised of a layered approach that is developed in concentricity, which is intended to captivate the user. According to the water-maze concept, the landscape zone that is 8000 square meters in size is split into sections depending on the different movement speeds of people. Because there is a straight track that is specifically designated for the purpose of running and also serves as an emergency route, this location is a runner’s dream. Moreover, those who like to take a moment to appreciate the surroundings are welcome to choose the tiny walking path that is easier to manage. Additionally, there is a trail for those who prefer to take things at a more leisurely pace and enjoy the tranquility of the environment. A vernacular approach that results in an incredibly global design seems to be promising as a supplement to the various facilities that are offered by the gated community. This raises the question of how much time will really be spent inside the limitations of four walls. Here is a link to the photographs that can be found on indiaartndesign.com:
