Are you someone who has ever fantasized of living by the water, surrounded by clear blue sky, and having a breathtaking view of the ocean? terry. The Tidal House, designed by Terry Architecture, takes us one step closer to realizing this idea… The fight against natural disasters such as rising tides is becoming an increasingly important problem as a result of the fast climate change and population expansion that is occurring throughout coastal zones. A futuristic infrastructure that welcomes environmental changes and offers a structure that will ebb and flow with the tides has been developed by Terry. Terry Architecture in an effort to better this scenario and move us one step closer to the future from where we are now. In addition to being developed as independent dwelling units, tidal houses are constructed using the technology of movable offshore drilling units and exploratory platforms. The construction of a tidal home may be moved about as required with the assistance of its “legs.” By using a rack and pinion gear system, these legs are able to be deployed to or retracted. Each leg functions independently, which enables the structures to be positioned in close proximity to the water’s surface. In addition to being able to endure strong winds, the aerodynamic spherical roof offers a substantial amount of surface area for the integration of photovoltaics that generate power. With the goal of enhancing the quality of life via superior design, the concept is to investigate the possibility of constructing a straightforward home inside a relatively small neighborhood. Built around a floating dock, the community of tidal houses is connected to the coast by a boardwalk that runs across the middle of the neighborhood. The structures are attached to the docks by means of gangways that can be adjusted; each structure is equipped with a platform that can be retracted, which enables people to access the water and gives a place for boats to take up mooring. Depending on the specific circumstances, the population density of any town might shift throughout the course of time. Because of this, the architectural idea is able to handle a broad variety of communities, as well as varied lifestyles and activities, and it may even change to meet them. Terry was invited to participate in the 15th international architectural exhibition that was held at the Biennale di Venezia. The tidal home designed by Terry Architecture is now on display at Palazzo Mora from the 28th of May to the 27th of November in 2016.
