There is something poetic in the shape of this house that strikes a chord of mysticism in the person who is interested in visiting. Despite its zen-inspired design and bold architectural lines and forms, the house conceals a sophisticated living atmosphere that emphasises views of the surrounding natural environment. The approximately 900 square foot home, which is located in Singapore and was designed by ONG & ONG pte. ltd., is conceived of as two main volumes, with the space in between being open to the sky and being beautified with a reflective pool, which makes it the most arresting highlight feature of the home. The two volumes or blocks are visually identical; however, they are differentiated from one another on the exterior by their textures. The front block, which is clad in granite, is where the formal living and dining areas are located, while the rear block, which is clad in fair-faced concrete, is where the kitchen and service functions are located. This distinctive texture provides a material symphony that comes to life with the reflected pool that is situated in the middle of their three-meter-wide gap. This pool, when paired with the three-story-high volume, results in a highly stunning visual scale. In contrast to the substantial volumes, which are positioned against the floor, it has aspects of lightness and space. There is a contrast between the substantial volumes and the softness that the trees in the reflected pool provide. Due to the fact that it draws air upward through it, this void guarantees that cross-ventilation occurs in all of the spaces. As a result, hot air is sent upward and cold air is directed downward into the different rooms, which results in effective internal circulation. The two lengths of the front block are lined with full-height glass panel doors that can be drawn back. This allows all of the areas on the ground floor to create a coherent whole, flowing into each other in a seamless manner, and maximizing views of the garden and pools. A zen-like atmosphere is maintained throughout the private portions of the residence, which are located on the level above. This environment allows the architecture to take center stage. Continuing with the structural vocabulary, the rooftop is transformed into an intriguing area by the presence of adjacent terraces and open decks that are carpeted with artificial grass. This creates a place in which the boundaries between interior and outdoor space are once again blurred. Visit IndiaArtnDesign.com and click on this link to see the photographs of the house.
