Is There a Difference Between Large Governments and Small Governments? Almost everyone agrees that our nation is moving in the direction of socialism, and there is little dispute about it. In the time of John F. Kennedy, Democrats are not the same as they are now. That is not to say that they are the party of the working class or the poor. They claim to be the party that controls the government. Having said that, the Republicans were formerly known as the party on the side of limited government, but under the leadership of President George W. Bush, the size of the government was increased by a factor of two. In the past, they were also regarded as the party of the affluent, and the majority of their financial support came from the major corporations. At this time, the amount of money that is given to President Obama and Hillary Clinton by large banks and Wall Street is more than what is given to Republicans. So, what exactly is going on! There is no party that represents the people. Each is engaged in a struggle for dominance. One might argue that they are both engaged in a struggle to win control of the government. It is possible that both of them are socialists and desire a large government. After hearing someone comment that the difference between the Democrats and the Republicans is that it will take the Republicans a little bit longer to become socialists, I found it to be an interesting observation. It seemed like the majority of our legislators had moved to the left. Some of the more progressive individuals have moved toward socialism or the control of large governments, while the republicans have moved to the left and into the progressive paradigm, but they have not moved toward limited government. However, it is important to note that while there are individuals on both sides of the aisle who seem to have maintained the traditional American principles, this does not constitute the majority of the population. The Republicans portray Democrats as liberals or socialists who want a large government, while the Left portrays the Right as extremists, bigots, and racists who want a small government in which large corporations rule the government and the poor and working man are disregarded. It appears to me that we are debating about the matter that is not relevant. In my opinion, it would not make much of a difference whether we had a large or a small government if we had leaders that prioritized the welfare of the people and the nation above their own re-election and the financial support they received from contributors. To put it another way, the issue is not the ideology; rather, it is the act of being greedy and self-centered. Considering the high levels of corruption and “big money” influence that exist inside our system, it would seem that socialism would be a more suitable alternative. It should not come as a surprise to those of us who are opposed to socialism that people are heading in that direction. This is what occurs when a small number of individuals begin to amass an excessive amount of power. Currently, a significant number of people living in our nation are of the opinion that the government is the only source that is powerful enough to control the influence of “big money.” That is probably something that is true, with the exception that the government is now corrupt, and they have merged together with big business to create a huge problem. For our own benefit, not for theirs. They feel confident in their abilities and are content with the current state of affairs. People in the lower and middle classes are the ones who are being obliterated. However, there is one force that is more powerful than money. It is the people’s voice and vote that is being heard. However, in order to do this, it is necessary for the population to take an interest in the current situation, rather than allowing themselves to be influenced by the “forked tongues” of our political leaders and candidates. The only difference that I can see between the two philosophies (big government versus small government), at least from the way that they are manifesting themselves, is that the capitalists progress to a point where corporations have all the money and control, whereas the socialists make it so that the extremely wealthy elite and the government have all the control. In the end, what exactly is the difference between the two? Regardless of the outcome, those in the lower and middle classes will suffer losses. We need to go beyond the debate between “big government” and “little government” and clean up our home so that we can see clearly how we can have any kind of government that is both effective and transparent. If our politicians are concerned about not being re-elected, and if our companies are concerned that no one would purchase their goods, then this is the only way that this might occur. We, as a group of individuals, need to come together. We will be successful if we do this. We are going to fail if we keep arguing and pointing fingers at one another, and there are a lot of individuals in this world who are hoping that we will fail.
