This house is a standout property in a rural neighborhood close to the coastal town of Whitby, which is located in northern England. It was designed by Ar. Trevor Mcivor, who employs clean lines, a multi-tiered flat roof, and an appealing composition to create this home. The Petaluma House is a modern home that has a split-level layout with an open floor plan. It is situated in a neighborhood that is mostly comprised of conventional custom houses. Designed for a retired professional, the organization of areas is heavily influenced by both the functionality of the space and the flexibility of the space provided. This space is accentuated by an elegant open-riser concrete and steel stair that is nestled between the tall vegetation and an indoor waterfall. The entrance features a double-height glazed atrium that is filled with bamboo trees. This atrium allows natural daylight to enter the lower level entertainment and recreation rooms. The primary living area consists of a kitchen that is open to the dining room, as well as a porch that is screened and has the capability of blending in with either the inside or outside of the residence. The living room, which is situated at a modest incline, is completely glass and is linked to a balcony that is at an angle. Whitewashed Douglas fir cedars and soffits, mahogany, concrete, and glass are some of the components that can be found throughout the home. These elements provide a palette that is both natural and ageless. The customer, who is a collector of antique automobiles, required a space in which to preserve his treasures inside an integrated and completely glass connected vehicle garage that has a view of the ravine that is located in the surrounding area. Throughout the whole petaluma home, there are completed concrete floors, and radiant heating and cooling systems are installed in the floor. The home is flooded with natural light and offers a pleasant environment thanks to the presence of natural ventilation at all times. Within the master bedroom is where you’ll find the master ensuite, which is a spa-like area. This is a contemporary approach with a very open but natural environment. Taking into consideration the antiquity of the building, a pneumatic see-through elevator shaft has been included into the design. This shaft connects all of the floors and adds an industrial flare.
