Kinteriors transforms three separate rooms into a chic restaurant-cum-bar that is housed inside a gymkhana in a wealthy district of Mumbai… It is very uncommon for projects that include refurbishing to be accompanied with a lengthy list of inherent restrictions, and this particular project is not an exception. Kanchan Fagwani, the main designer of Kinteriors, is able to effectively address the problems that she faces by exchanging costly materials for more cost-effective ones. She does this without sacrificing the overall appearance and atmosphere of the room. In the beginning, she eliminates all of the walls that are obstructing the space in order to create a seamless space that includes areas for fine dining, lounge-cum-bar, reception, and lobby. She then uses her creative design skills to design the parking lot, which is the only area that cannot be removed from its columns, by optimizing seating around the repetitive columns. By placing a table with a mirror-covered tabletop that is a shade of brown between two columns, she creates an atmosphere that is both optically brighter and more appealing to the eye. The process of combining three different kinds of ceilings in order to remove an exposed ceiling proved to be too laborious; as a result, she decided to keep the waffle slab ceiling that was originally installed in one section and moved the reception area and lobby to this location. Additionally, the ceiling is transformed into a highlight element by the use of dimmed filament lamps that are incorporated into each of the waffle squares. This gently differentiates the ceiling from the rest of the area. Kanchan uses a method that is both economical and effective: she conceals the air conditioning ducts by covering them with gunny sacks and then painting them in layers of dark gray paint to get an even, uniform finish! An additional innovative solution is presented in the form of glossy floor tiles, which provide a cost-effective alternative to the appearance of marble. Additionally, beige paint with a shine finish is used to give the neutral walls a rich design aesthetic. The area is made more lively by the use of upholstery in khakhee green, navy blue, and printed pink, and some chairs are punctuated with studs for the perfect punch. In order to further emphasize the aesthetic, white moulding frames that are adorned with brown-colored mirrors are dressed up in an artistic manner. The word “gaudy” does not appear on the list, despite the sheen and shimmer. This is mostly due to the fact that the design is built with balance in mind. As an example, the bar, which is covered in golden tiles, is contrasted with a galaxy granite counter top that is mostly black. In a similar manner, the swarovski lettering signs is etched on a backdrop of jet-black acrylic, and all of the other brilliant elements are arranged in harmony against brown laminate and veneer furnishings. Simple nuances are transformed into accent features, such as the delicate flutes made of MDF that are displayed on the background wall of the bar; wall treatments that consist of glossy paint and mirrors; the selection of filigree orb metallic chandeliers; partially permeable metallic screens, and other similar elements. In the big scheme of things, lighting is the star. This includes everything from diamond-shaped filament bulbs that are completed in tea-colored to one-watt led bulbs and uplighters to track lights and spectacular chandeliers. creating a dining experience that is both fashionable and celebratory, where celebration may be the standard!
