Repin’s portraits brought in a lot of money with their sales. He painted figurines that each had their own unique characteristics, and he did an excellent job of portraying them. Because of his exceptional realistic talents, this was dependent on him. It is important to note that one of the most representative works of portraiture is the picture titled “Portrait of the Composer Modest Musorgsky.” The picture portrayed that the stubborn and persistent attitude of this famous composer was accentuated during the time when Musorgsky was unwell and in the hospital. This famous musician, whose head and chest formed the angle of rotation, keen eyes, and firm demeanor were to be shown in front of the audience, was shown by the painter via the use of the perspective of gazing up. In a manner that was comparable to a portrait of the genre paintings sale, Repin preferred to show their families and close friends in a way that was both laid-back and vibrant. In the year 1892, the journal known as “Observer” made a remark on the figure of the piece, which seemed to emerge from the frame of the painting. In the month of March in the year 1881, Repin came across the news in the newspaper that Musorgsky was very sick. Repin made a hasty trip to the hospital in St. Petersburg in order to pay Musorgsky a visit while he was laying in bed. He was desperate to see his buddy. Musorgsky was just 42 years old at the time, yet he seemed to be an elderly man regardless of his age. Musorgsky was able to feel revitalized with the entrance of Repin, which caused him to rise from his bed. Repin devoted a total of four days to finishing the picture of Musorgsky while he was in the hospital. Musorgsky passed away a few days down the road. Tretyakov acquired the replica of the picture for his collection (now preserved in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow). The whole compensation was allocated by Repin to the construction of the monument that was placed in Musorgsky’s grave.
